Toby Stephens


Toby Stephens was born on 21 April 1969 as the younger son of actors Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Robert Stephens at the Middlesex Hospital in Fitzrovia, London. He is an English stage, television, radio and film actor who has appeared in films in both the UK and US as well as in India. Early in his career he won the Sir John Gielgud Prize for Best Actor and the Ian Charleson Award for his performance in the title role of Coriolanus at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1994. He is known for the roles of Bond villain Gustav Graves in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day (for which he was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor), James Bond himself in the BBC radio plays, Edward Fairfax Rochester in a BBC television adaptation of Jane Eyre and in his role as Captain Flint in the Starz television series Black Sails. Stephens is a lead in the Netflix science fiction series Lost in Space, which began streaming in 2018. The third and final season is currently filmed in Canada.
